Emeterio* sat down to write his weekly letter to his father. At only 9 years of age, he’d already experienced so many challenges. His father was in prison for as long as he could remember, leaving his mother to be the sole provider for the family in the midst of an intense economic crisis. Today, his grandmother took care of him while his mother went to one of her three jobs. He was grateful for his loving family, but he felt so alone.
Emeterio’s outlook on life began to change when a friend invited him to the kid’s program at his local church. He was immediately moved by God and His Word—he couldn’t get enough of it! All he wanted to do was read about God’s love and His plan to change the world.
He longed to have a Bible of his very own to take home with him. But Bibles were a rare thing to come across. Emeterio dreamed of sharing God with his family by reading to his mother and grandmother. He knew how weary they were as they survived each day without any hope.
