Ajani* was an admired man in his community, working as a water resources engineer for the city. He and his wife were grateful to earn enough to support their four children.
Even though Ajani had respect because of his career, his family faced opposition due to their faith. Followers of Christianity were hated and persecuted where Ajani lives. His neighbours often expressed their disdain for the God he followed.
Things drastically changed when war struck their nation. He and his wife were forced to join the army and sent their children away for safety. Although they survived physically unharmed, atrocities they witnessed scarred them emotionally.
The government had no budget left for Ajani to return to work after the war. Plus, the factory his wife worked at had been bombed. Each day Ajani went into the city trying to secure odd jobs or other work, but to no avail. They began to starve. Ajani had no choice but to beg on the street and ask restaurants for leftover food.
When you stepped in to partner with Ajani’s local church, it marked a significant change, both for his family and the community. Through you, people in the church were given food for their own families and to share with their neighbours. Ajani was overjoyed! Not only did he find relief that his children could eat, but it gave him the opportunity to reach out to his neighbours and share God’s love.
Ajani excitedly shared food with five of his neighbours – they couldn’t comprehend why he would do such a thing during a time of starvation and scarcity. Ajani said to them, “I would not be a follower of Christ if I didn’t share.”
This left a lasting impact on each of them. The neighbours that once had disdain for his faith began to turn their hearts to Jesus. Four of Ajani’s neighbours decided to accept Christ at great personal risk!
Now, Ajani meets with them every week to pray. They secretly attend a church further away so they can avoid being discovered. Ajani is so grateful that through your compassionate aid, not only can he feed his family, but his neighbours that once persecuted him have discovered the life-changing love of God! Thank you!
