When I first stepped into the war zone, my heart was full of uneasiness. Gunshots and explosions could be heard at any time, and in front of me were broken homes and displaced families. With God’s love in mind, my team and I began to provide material relief to the affected families, including food, drinking water, and medical supplies. Although resources are limited, every donation carries God’s care, with the hope that they feel warmth and love from it.
We have been providing materially, and spiritually. In the temporary shelter we have been residing in, we embrace prayer meetings, Bible studies, and worship. Language barriers and cultural differences have not impeded our work at all.
I remember a mother whose husband disappeared in the war. Without her husband to help provide and running from the horrors of war, her child was dying of malnutrition. We prayed for her, and she began to sob uncontrollably. Through tearful eyes, she told us, “Thank you for bringing hope, letting me know that God has not forgotten us. We think in our hearts that these are all the hope you bring to them.”
The Lord’s loving touch can be felt by all. It is not easy to serve in war, and sometimes we brush shoulders with danger. Once, our convoy was trapped in the war zone and could hardly get out. At that tense moment, I prayed with my team members and asked God to protect us. In the end, we miraculously passed safely. This experience made me understand more clearly that the real sense of security does not lie in the environment, but in the presence of God.
Through this period of service, I have witnessed God’s faithfulness and love every step of the way. Amid war, God is still calling His people to comfort the brokenhearted and heal broken lives. I deeply believe that no matter how dangerous the environment is, God’s love can change people’s hearts and bring true peace to this war-torn land.
