Isayas* couldn’t wait to see how God would move as he prepared to welcome children for a Christian-based camp. As much as he wished he could invite every child in the community, he had to be cautious. Christians are persecuted where he served, often seen as a threat by others. Real danger followed them. The possibility of arrest, attack, or exile from the community is a constant risk.
He couldn’t believe his eyes as 100 additional kids from all religious backgrounds arrived! Isayas was overwhelmed with emotion by the unexpected response.
God had so much more planned for the camp than they ever imagined. 38 children and two parents were so moved by Jesus’ great love for them that they made the decision to walk with Him!
Lami* is one of the children who experienced Jesus’ love during the camp. He said, “I want to fellowship with God every day and serve at church on Sundays! I also hope that someday when I’m done school, I can serve others like Isayas does. My family follows the traditional religion, worshipping idols, and sacrificing to witch doctors. They will not be happy with me, so please pray for me.”
Lami has joy in his new relationship with Christ amidst the risk of rejection by his family and community. Isayas will mentor him alongside two teenagers to ensure both his safety and his growth in his new faith.
