Yolanda* and her 99 Adventures Children’s Ministry readied themselves for another day of bringing joy to children coping with life-altering illnesses. Puppets, clowns, and fun skits and games were just a few of the things they had in store for their visit.
But most of all, Yolanda looked forward to the quieter moments spent with the families of sick children. Each week, she went to pray with little Alvaro* and his family. He was so ill that they had to stand on the opposite side of a window to protect him since his immunity was weak.
At first, Alvaro’s family would hardly look at Yolanda when she’d come to pray. As per the culture they lived in, the family practiced witchcraft at home. They were unfamiliar with Christianity and the hope Jesus offered them. Christians also continue to face various forms of harassment and intimidation, so embracing the path of Christ faces many difficulties. But with each visit, walls began to come down as they felt God stir their hearts and witnessed Yolanda’s genuine care for Alvaro and his family.
Flash forward to today and everything has transformed! Alvaro’s condition has greatly improved since the first time Yolanda met him. He’s not the only one who’s changed though. His parents now know and serve Jesus Christ because of your partnership with Yolanda and 99 Adventures! Alvaro’s grandfather used to be so upset that he’d leave the room when she arrived to pray. But now, not only does he accept the prayers, but is moved to tears by them.
