“Some children drew nightmares, a sick grandparent, or relatives who had fled the country due to the economic crisis here,” Juanita said.
One drawing in particular stood out. When Juanita asked 5-year-old Javier* to explain his picture, it nearly broke her heart. “I don’t have a dad,” he said with tears in his eyes. His father was abusive and abandoned their family.
Juanita used this moment to inspire hope! “I explained to Javier how wonderful his Heavenly Father is and how much He loves him,” said Juanita. Javier beamed with joy and was transformed by this revelation! He went from a young child feeling deep hurt and abandonment from his dad, to realizing he’s loved and treasured by his Heavenly Father!
