Imagine not being able to communicate with your parents, siblings, or peers. This was Lana*’s reality from the day she was born. Being deaf, she felt like an outsider in her family. She only had limited ability to communicate with her mother. It was frustrating and upsetting for the whole family. Lana would watch her siblings laugh and play together and wished she could join in.
When Lana was invited to a special children’s ministry program for deaf children at the local church, her family’s life changed forever!
This was the first time Lana had a group of kids just like her to interact with. Their group’s leader taught them sign language and Lana’s whole world began to open up. Finally, she could communicate!
Not only did she learn vital skills for life, but she experienced Christ at these meetings. Lana invited her whole family to come with her to church. It wasn’t long before everyone in her family was learning sign language through the church’s workshops! Plus, now they had a community of support around them who understood what life was like with a hearing-impaired child.
